Smoothylicious Charity Stall

The children all worked very well together, with the expert help of Kru Mon and Kru Eileen, and produced a fantastic effort to help raise money, selling smoothies and punch. We spent 963 baht on materials and made 2096 meaning a profit of 1133 baht to help make a difference to Phyo's life by enabling him to have the necessary surgery.

Humanities, science and art.

This week we have been looking at cave paintings and thinking about how they recorded as a "historical diary", (Kylen) what was important to early mankind. In our art we have drawn what is important to our modern day lives in the cave painting style as a record for future generations. For science we have been finding out about photosynthesis by having a walk around the school grounds and looking at the different kinds of leaves and describing the process of photosynthesis that is taking place around us all the time. We also listened to the song here to help us get the idea.

Review and preview

English
This week we empathized with the characters by writing haikus like Andy, the main characters and began to analyse characters by what they say, do and how they are described. We also answered some comprehension questions.
Next week we will be empathizing more with the characters by planning and writing a letter  to Andy, trying to offer her some advice and comfort.
Maths
This week we continued our perimeter challenge by breaking it down into steps for each stage and looking for any patterns that the system may have shown us. We finally used the emerging patterns to begin predicting what other other perimeters would be without having to do all the calculations.
Next week we will be using mental and formal written methods for subtracting 3 and 4 digit numbers.

Art
This week we used our developing skills in adding texture to our drawings of flowers by drawing the stigma and stamen of a flowering plant.
Next week we will be doing cave paintings  that depict our lifestyles in a similar way to that of early man.
PSHE
This week we thought about how we can organise ourselves for the drinks stall at the charity event.
Next week we will be thinking about how we can get ourselves organized for our charity stall.
Humanities
This week experienced what life may be like for a paleontologist attempting to explain how the dinosaurs may have lived from the evidence available to them.
Analyzing cave paintings and trying to develop an understanding of what life may have been like for the early humans from them.
Science
This week we reflected on our seed germination experiment and the ways in which we can make it a fair test next time.
Next week we will be learning about photosynthesis and thinking of ways to carry out an investigation into photosynthesis

Primary Paleontologist become Dinosaur Detectives.

This week we discovered fossilized bones that had been exposed after all the rainy weather. Trying to put together the pieces of this paleontology puzzle gave us a good idea of what it may be like discovering dinosaur bones. We tried to picture what the dinosaur may have looked like, ate and how it lived.

On Monday we completed our final copy of our newspaper report and then began our study of Jacqueline Wilson's book The Suitcase Kid, which the children are enjoying
Next week we will be empathizing with the characters by writing haikus like Andy, the main characters and role playing passages from the book.
Maths
This week we continued to look at measure by converting metric measurements, as well as calculating the perimeter of shapes, culminating in a tables perimeter challenge.
Next week we will be using mental and formal written methods for subtracting 3 and 4 digit numbers.

Art
This week we used our developing skills in adding texture to our drawings of dinosaurs using coloured pencils, by drawing the panoplosaurus with its body defenses.
Next week we will be making 3D flowers from different materials.
PSHE
This week we will talk about what strategies we can use to help remain calm in uncomfortable situations.
Next week we will be thinking about how we can get ourselves organized for our charity stall.
Humanities
This week  looked at the variety of ways that dinosaurs used to protect themselves.
Next week we will complete our work on how dinosaurs protected themselves and be going on a fossil hunt.
Science
This week we completed our work on the food web of a dinosaur and set up our investigation into seed germination.
Next week we will be learning about photosynthesis and thinking of ways to carry out an investigation into photosynthesis
