Rainforest assembly

Today Y4P put on a fantastic performance in our class assembly. We taught the whole school about sustainability by performing songs from 'The Jungle Book' and singing Michael Jackson's 'Earth song'.

We danced, sang and acted like stars!!!!

Can you spot how many lines of symmetry our name art has?

Thermal conductors and insulators.

During science we have been conducting experiments on heat.
We tested the temperature of hot water and found that it began getting cooler and concluded that heat will always travel from a hot area to a cooler area.

We then discussed that there are ways to try and keep heat in but that also at times we would like heat to travel through a material.
This brought us onto looking at thermal insulators and conductors. We used our knowledge to predict which material allowed heat to travel through it. We were right! The answer was the metal spoon therefore it was a conductor.

Then Miss Prest explained to us a problem. She said that on a morning she is soooooo busy that her coffee gets cold before she has time to drink it. How could we help????

We planned a science experiment to test different materials. In our groups we wrapped a container of hot water with the material and then measured the temperature every 5 minutes. We used tinfoil, fabric, newspaper and bubble wrap and ensured it was a fair test by keeping the water, containers and time we tested the temperature the same.

We concluded that fabric is the best thermal insulator!

Kidzania!

Today was the day we'd all looked forward to...Kidzania!

The children had an amazing time learning the process and skill involved in range of jobs. Year 4 worked in a Coca Cola and a peanut factory, helped sick animals in the veterinary clinic and hunted for criminals to help the court house. The children were paid in Kidzos which they then paid into the bank and used to buy treats and toys, this taught the children the value of money and provided them with independence. Most importantly, we all had fun!

Angry verbs!

In Miss Prest's literacy class we are excellent at writing long detailed stories. Yet one thing that always trips us up is past and present tense.

So today we have been concentrating on past tense verbs. This is our display on Angry Birds…. Or should we say verbs!

Rainforest Diorama

Our work on the rain forest has led us to investigate the 4 layers and we have found that they are remarkably different. Whilst the forest floor is dark, damp and muddy the canopy layer is teaming with life and colourful fruits.
To show our knowledge of the rain forest we have made dioramas using shoe boxes. In our small groups we added the animals to the correct layers, used the colours we thought most appropriate and even used our own resources to make each layer interesting.
What do you think?
