mainly worn by Native
Americans from the Plains region. They were only awarded for
brave acts and
even then they only earned one feather! Each time the chief, warrior, or
other
important tribe member committed a brave act, a feather was added.
Therefore,
the more feathers in the headdress, the braver he was.
The most prized of all feathers
to receive for an Indian headdress was the Golden Eagle
feather. Because the
Indians saw the eagle as a messenger of God, this feather could only
be earned
through hardship, loyalty, and strength.
